QUEEN’S PARK –NDP MPP Michael Mantha demanded that the Wynne government stop risking the lives of Ontarians by refusing to allow White River’s fire department to transfer its radio, an essential service for the region, to a planned new tower after MNRF takes down its tower in two weeks.
“The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has refused to let the White River fire department radio be transferred to the new tower,” said Mantha, MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin. “We are two weeks away from the dismantling of the tower. Is this government ready to help the Township of White River to protect an essential service for the region?”
Mantha told the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) that the fire department radio helps provide a safety system to call out for fires, as well as for automobile extrication service to the Ministry of Transportation through the White River section of the TransCanada highway in Northern Ontario.
“By not transferring the fire department radio to the new tower, this government is putting at risk the life of Ontarians passing through this section of the TransCanada Highway,” Mantha said.
“How is this government going to protect Ontarians if they don’t transfer the fire department radio?”
