Contingency plans for education must include northern, remote and rural communities: NDP
ALGOMA-MANITOULIN — Michael Mantha, NDP MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin, released the following statement in response to the government announcement today about alternative learning options for students while schools are closed down due to COVID-19:
“While news of learning opportunities during the closure of schools is welcome, it is absolutely essential that contingency plans for education be made for students in northern and rural communities, where broadband Internet is often just not available.
No one wants to see any student fall behind, but for many, many students in northern and rural communities, online learning is not an option.
The NDP is ready and willing to work with the government to ensure appropriate education solutions are in place for students in northern and rural communities during these exceptional circumstances.”
